close to the historic motorcycle manufacturer's existing plant at Chennai, on the South East coast of India.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Due for completion by the first quarter of 2013, the new plant will be equipped to produce the entire product range of Royal Enfield motorcycles and will increase the company’s current capacity from 70,000 to 150,000 machines per annum.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Demand for Royal Enfield motorcycles, which have been produced in India since 1949 but retain their 'British DNA', has increased significantly over recent years and, in spite of investment in new plant, the existing factory is reaching capacity.&amp;nbsp; With bright sunshine and temperatures reaching 29 degrees C (80 fahrenheit) people took full advantage of the fleet of demonstrator machines available and more than 250 test rides were taken, expertly guided around local roads by the Cheltenham and Cotswold Advanced Motorcyclists.&amp;nbsp; Rides in the Royal Enfield/GP  Manx sidecar combination, featured recently in BBC Springwatch, were in constant demand, with 150 passengers enjoying  their first experience of a trip in a chair. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;div class="separator" style="clear: both; Other attractions included motorcycle adventurer, author and  Royal Enfield expert Gordon May, who is prepaing to ride his 1953  Bullet from the North Cape in Norway to the South Cape of Africa next  year.&amp;nbsp; MAG promoting Get a Grip.&amp;nbsp; Trials ace and ISDT gold medallist  Johnny Brittain (pictured) dropped by on the Saturday and talked to master of ceremonies Jim Reynolds about his successful years riding Royal Enfields.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Shipston-on-Stour Sea Scouts were kept busy in the refreshment tent, serving 350 portions of their now famous curry, not to mention countless bacon baps and sausage  butties.&amp;nbsp; &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Prizes were awarded for the best motorcycles ridden to the factory on both days,&amp;nbsp;(judged by Frank and Rowena from&amp;nbsp; Real Classic magazine); on Saturday a rare 1953 Royal Enfield Meteor twin won the prize and on Sunday the laurels went to a Triumph Tiger 650 and Watsonian GP Classic DL outfit. &lt;span id="" mce_style="font-size: small;" style="font-size: x-small;"&gt;&lt;span id="" mce_style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;" style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif;"&gt;Perhaps the most  unusual vehicle in the car park, which was packed with interesting  bikes, was a yellow Messerschmitt bubble car.&lt;/span&gt;&lt;/span&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Dates for next year's Open Weekend will be announced soon.&amp;nbsp; In the afternoon the group rode to the market town of Witney, (now famous as the constituency of Prime Minister David Cameron), where they were given a private tour of the Wychwood brewery, famed for its craftily crafted Hobgoblin ale.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The day was rounded off with an informal dinner at which awards were presented to the best-performing dealerships, won for the ninth consecutive year by Haywards of Cambridge. text-align: left;"&gt;We recently spent a day in the Penines/Lake District putting the new Battle Green Bullet through its paces.&amp;nbsp; ﻿It coped admirably with a wide variety of roads and conditions, covering well over 150 miles, from fast winding A-roads to 30mph crawls skirting the edge of Lake Windermere.&amp;nbsp; historic Watsonian-Squire sidecar factory, located between the scenic Cotswold towns of Moreton-in-Marsh and Chipping Campden, the event has a reputation for a friendly 'village fête' atmosphere and attracts around two thousand people over the weekend.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The complete 2011 range of Royal Enfield motorcycles will be on display and test rides, accompanied by IAM riders, are available on all models over both days.&amp;nbsp; Places are allocated on a first come, first served basis, so visitors should arrive early to book a seat. Don't forget to bring a helmet, appropriate riding gear and driving licence.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Other attractions include an opportunity to browse the sidecar workshops, spare parts counter and a display of Royal Enfield branded casual clothing and accessories.&amp;nbsp; bought a Royal Enfield it moved him to write a song.  Here's his story;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"I got a wonderful motorcycle earlier this year - a Royal Enfield Bullet 500efi DL. As with most truly life-changing experiences, it had to have a song. I'd written a lyric, found what I think is a really catchy chorus and got a rhythm and feel for the song nailed about a month ago, but I was really struggling to find a tune and structure for the verses".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"Anyway, I decided to give it another bash yesterday (27th May) and finally got something that worked. A bit quirky and asymetrical - also quite difficult to remember! As I was already planning to go to Commonfolk yesterday, I gave the new song a run out in front of an audience - the first time I've ever finished and performed a song on the same day".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"It went pretty well - a few very positive comments from audience members afterwards, even though it was obviously a bit rough. The traditional nacelle, seen on all other models in the range, is replaced with a chrome headlight and digital instrument panel.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;The design team at Watsonian also gave the rear end of the bike a radical makeover, replacing the twin saddle with a flat track style glass fibre seat unit, incorporating a discrete tail light and chrome mini indicators.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Its original namesake was introduced in 1959 and destined exclusively for the US export market. Held  at the historic Watsonian-Squire sidecar factory in the scenic  Cotswolds, Royal  Enfield’s UK home since 1999, this year’s event takes place on the  weekend of  19&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt;/20&lt;sup&gt;th&lt;/sup&gt; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"&gt;Unveiled at the NEC Bike Show on 26th November, the Woodsman EFI is the latest UK-designed variant of Royal Enfield’s Bullet to be powered by the new fuel-injected unit construction engine and is new for 2010. Like the original Woodsman, which was produced by Royal Enfield between 1955 -’59 and sold in the USA under the Indian brand, it is a 499cc Bullet single with high bars and a raised exhaust. However, there the similarities end, because the new Woodsman also features a solo seat, handy mini luggage rack, rear set footrests and an alloy bash plate too.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;&lt;div style="border-bottom: medium none; border-left: medium none; border-right: medium none; border-top: medium none;"&gt;&lt;br /&gt;&lt;/div&gt;Routed around the machine’s left side (standard exhausts run along the right side) the high level system is lighter than the original part and has been re-engineered to work in harmony with the engine management unit, allowing the engine to breathe more freely and creating the classic ‘British single’ exhaust note. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Introduced to comply with tough new European emissions regulations, the all-new 499cc engine retains bore and stroke of 84mm x 90mm, but with electronic fuel injection by Keihin of Japan and a 5-speed gearbox. This is operated via a 7-plate wet clutch, so it is both light and accurate. The distinctive upswept ‘Gold Star’ style silencer fitted to the right side, which is shorter and lighter than the standard part, has been re-engineered to work in harmony with the engine management unit, allowing the engine to breathe more freely and creating a classic exhaust note. &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;With its 4.5-gallon hand-polished aluminium tank, the Clubman immediately looks stylistically very different from the road version of the Electra, on which it is based, and this appearance is enhanced by the addition of ‘ace’ drop handlebars, rear-set footrests and a hand made fibreglass seat unit. The design team paid particular attention to ergonomics so that the riding position feels sportier, but does not sacrifice comfort or cramp the rider.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Another new feature for 2009 is the re-designed solo seat unit, which has a removable cowl that covers the pillion seat. According to Claude Crampe, who runs the taxi firm in the Southern French city of Montpelier, his clients enjoy the retro style of the Royal Enfield as they are transported to the beach or airport.  According to Moto magazine, taxi bikes have been successful in France as they cut journey times and customers can be transported door-to-door more easily than by car. Existing and potential customers took an opportunity to take a free test ride on models from the 2009 line-up and, led by observers from the Gloucestershire IAM, the bikes were ridden a total of 1600 miles around the local Cotswold roads over both days.&lt;br /&gt;Now in its fourth year, the event is a showcase for all aspects of Royal Enfield ownership, stimulating demand throughout the company's 50-strong dealer network. Alongside genuine accessories, the new collection of Royal Enfield casual clothing was launched and visitors could obtain live insurance quotes too. Specialist Royal Enfield tour operators Arden Motorcycles from the Cotswolds and Bike Astur from Spain were kept busy talking to people considering a holiday on two wheels.&lt;br /&gt;In spite of the large numbers, the Open Weekend has retained its informal atmosphere; catering is provided by the Shipston-on-Stour Sea Scouts, (who cooked a choice of three curries in addition to more traditional hot food), locally produced ice creams were available and there was access to the Watsonian factory, where the bikes are prepared before despatch to dealers and sidecars are manufactured too. Like the previous Trials model, the EFI version features braced ‘scrambles’ handlebars, alloy mudguards and matching bash plate, new tail light and solo seat. Updates for 2009 include vintage style block pattern trials tyres and a mini luggage rack, for which an optional pillion seat pad is available.&lt;br /&gt;At the heart of the 2009 Trials machine is Royal Enfield’s new fuel injected unit construction engine. This is lighter and more efficient than the original motor, which had a separate gearbox, boosting power to 27.5 HP in standard form while meeting tough Euro 3 emissions requirements. As a result the upswept sports silencer fitted to the Trials bike, which is shorter and lighter than the standard part, has been re-engineered to work in harmony with the engine management unit, allowing the engine to breathe more freely. This is a round trip of approx 2,000 miles taking about 2 weeks to complete.  &lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;"I will be riding my Royal Enfield 500 bullet motor cycle" explains Ian.  "This bike has hardly changed in design since the 1950’s and draws crowds of admirers. Last autumn whilst taking part in &lt;em&gt;Enduro Himalaya&lt;/em&gt; on a similar bike, I met Dave the medic, a member of the Midlands Air Ambulance team and was impressed by the dedication and skill of these guys. I think the county air ambulance is a wonderful organisation and you never know when you might need them. As I am a photographer I made a DVD of the ride and fellow riders generously donated to the cause and raised a total of £700. I so enjoyed riding my Enfield in the Himalayas I’ve decided to continue fund raising by travelling from Land’s End to John O’Groats and hope to raise over £3,000. I also hope to meet up with some of the guys from the Himalays trip en route".&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Ian would like to thank Watsonian Squire from Blockley and Gordon &amp;amp; Neil from Lucas Motorcycles Ross-on-Wye for help and servicing for this trip.&lt;br /&gt;&lt;br /&gt;Accidents will always happen, so it is reassuring to know that across the Midlands and Welsh border region we have an Air Ambulance service available 7 days a week, 365 days a year, just in case.   They receive no government or lottery money – in fact no public funding at all.
